The South Pacific Motor Sports Club, better known as the "Car Club" is one of the most popular clubs in Port Moresby. The club has a rich history. Founded in 1965 the club has been famous for staging the "Papuan Safari", after PNG gained Independence in 1975, renamed to "Independence Safari". Several other sports orientated clubs are associated with the Car Club, making the Car Club their home.

The famous "Papuan Safari"
The first annual Papuan Safari of 500 miles was held in October 1971. Over the years the rally attracted top drivers.

Over many years the Car Club has been popular with thousands of members and guests. Some of our members have left Papua New Guinea on their own accord, some, sadly, have past away. You are not forgotten. You will always be part of the Car Club!
